COGNITIVE ERGONOMIC ASSESSMENTS

What Are Cognitive Ergonomic Assessments?

Cognitive Ergonomic Assessment can help employees with cognitive disabilities such as:

Stress

Concussions

ADHD

Dyslexia

Anxiety disorders

Mood disorders

Other mental health conditions

Cognitive Ergonomic Assessments examine the job’s requirements for skills such as:

Memory

Attention

Ability to deal with conflict

Organization

Emotional situations

Teamwork

Concentration

Working with the public

Time pressures

Social interactions

A comprehensive report is provided to the employer and employee which outlines these cognitive skills and the related stressors.

The goal of cognitive ergonomics is to provide practical recommendations and suggestions that organizations can use to help employees effectively complete their work tasks.

WHY SHOULD ORGANIZATIONS PROVIDE THIS SERVICE?

Up to 60% of absenteeism is related to stress which can be quite costly to the employer. During any given week, 500,000 Canadian employees miss work due to mental health concerns. Research shows that it is much better for the employee’s mental well-being if they can start/continue to partake in some of their traditional work tasks. Work is an important part of one’s life as it provides financial security, routine, meaningful activity, self-identity and social support.

Successfully putting together an all-encompassing ṣtay-at-work or return-to-work program means that employees can find the appropriate roles and tasks suited to their personal abilities.

HOW DOES A COGNITIVE DEMANDS ANALYSIS OR A COGNITIVE ERGONOMIC ASSESSMENT HELP?

Ergo-Safety can provide a Cognitive Demands Analysis (CDA) of a particular job position. This information can then be used for job matching or during hiring and recruitment. This information can be helpful for WSIB case managers or other healthcare professionals.

Cognitive Ergonomic Assessments:

Cognitive Ergonomic Assessment (CEA) are a one-on-one service. They are completed for one employee and is specific to their medical history and their particular work tasks. It can be beneficial for employees who are returning to work or staying at work while facing cognitive challenges. The report compares an employee’s cognitive abilities, and the job demands. We then provide modified or alternative work recommendations for employees.

WHY
NOW?

As we prepare to return to the office and with the ever-present stress of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more important now than ever to take care of your employee’s health and mental well-being. In Canada, one in five people experience mental well-being concerns and many are unable to work. Our working population is older than ever (one in five over the age of 55) and cognition changes occur as we age.

Additionally, mental health is now the number one reason for disability claims for long term disability, and in 2015, depression was the top cause of disability around the world. Unfortunately, we know it is likely to continue without proper intervention.
